TOLHUIN (ESPAÑOL)
Su nombre proviene de la voz Tol-wen en idioma Selk’nam y significa “corazón”. Es la ciudad más joven de la provincia, dado que 5 de octubre de 2012, dejó de ser una comuna para alcanzar su autonomía como municipio.
Se ubicada sobre la Ruta Nacional 3, a 1.11 km de Ushuaia (sur) y 105 km de Río Grande (norte) y en los inicios de 1972, algunos pocos pobladores se ubicaron en la cabecera del lago KHAMI-Fagnano para desempeñar tareas en aserraderos. En ese momento, Tolhuin contaba con solo 150 familias.
TOLHUIN (ENGLISH)
Its name comes from the voice “Tol-wen”, Selk’nam language, which means “heart.” This is the most young city on Tierra del Fuego, because in October 5th, 2012, ceased to be a commune to be finally declared as a town. It is located on the N°3 National Route, 111 km. from Ushuaia (South) and 105 km. from Río Grande (North).
In early 1972, a part of its population settled on the head of Khami/Fagnano Lake, permorming tasks in sawmills. At that time, Tolhuin only reckoned with 150 families.
